Bambu P1S Repair & Servicing in London

Hotend, AMS, Heatbreak Fan and Flow Calibration

Bambu specialists Putney workshop SW15 Same-day diagnostic

Overview

The most-shipped Bambu — and the most repaired

The P1S sells in higher volume than the X1 series and shows up in our workshop more often. It uses the same all-in-one hotend as the X1, the same AMS, and the same carbon-rod motion — but skips the lidar and chamber heater. That means a different fault profile: more manual flow calibration drift, more heatbreak fan failures, more door-hinge complaints, and slightly different AMS-feeder behaviour. The repairs themselves are not exotic — Bambu publishes solid wiki procedures for almost every common fault. The value of bringing it to us is honest diagnosis, the right parts in stock, and a properly verified handover so the printer actually works when you get it home.

Features

P1S Repairs We Carry Out

Hotend Assembly

Bambu's all-in-one P1-series hotend replacement, cold-fit per the wiki procedure. We check the silicone sock seating and the heatsink fan health while we're in there.

Flow Calibration

Without lidar the P1S relies on manual flow calibration in the slicer. After a hotend swap or filament change, flow drifts. We run proper flow + pressure-advance calibration and load the corrected values into your slicer profiles.

AMS Repair

First-stage feeder cleaning, broken-filament removal, hub sensor and PTFE replacement. AMS behaviour on P1S is identical to X1, so the diagnostic procedure is the same.

Heatbreak Fan

The P1S heatbreak fan is a known wear item — bearing noise after 1000+ hours, intermittent stalling, and eventual heat-creep that masquerades as hotend clogs. We replace and re-test thermal performance with a long PETG print.

Door Hinge & Enclosure

The P1S glass door hinges wear and the magnetic catch loses grip over time. We replace hinges, sort the catch, and check enclosure seal — relevant for ABS print success.

Annual Service

Carbon-rod inspection and lubrication, lead-screw grease, belt tension, all fan health, full firmware update, PTFE replacement on AMS and toolhead, plate condition check, manual flow re-baseline, and a verification print.

Process

How a P1S Repair Runs

Simple steps to get your problem solved quickly and professionally.

1

Symptom Capture

What's the actual fault? HMS code, print symptom, when it started. P1S has a smaller symptom range than X1C — diagnosis is usually quick.

2

Bench Test

AMS load/unload cycle, hotend flow test, fan health curve, belt tension check. The P1S exposes most faults within 30 minutes of bench testing.

3

Parts & Quote

Common P1S parts are stocked — hotend, heatbreak fan, AMS feeder, PTFE. You see the part and labour before any work goes ahead.

4

Verify & Hand Over

Every P1S leaves with a fresh manual flow calibration and a verification print. We give you the slicer profile values to save into Bambu Studio.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

My P1S keeps under-extruding mid-print — clog or something else?
Most often heat creep from a failing heatbreak fan, not a hotend clog. Symptom is fine first 10–20 minutes then progressive under-extrusion. The fan is cheap and accessible — replace, then re-test before going near the hotend. If symptoms persist after a fresh fan, then look at the hotend.
Is the P1S worth fitting a hardened nozzle for occasional carbon-fibre prints?
For genuine occasional use, no — pop a regular nozzle in for that job, then swap back. For repeated CF use the wear is real and a hardened nozzle pays for itself within a kilo or two of filament. We supply, fit, and recalibrate flow either way.
Does the P1S print ABS as well as the X1C?
Close, but not quite. Without an active chamber heater the P1S relies on passive heat from the bed. Small ABS parts print fine; larger ABS prints can warp at the corners. Sealing the door and chimney helps. If ABS is a daily requirement, the X1C’s chamber heater is genuinely useful — for occasional ABS the P1S manages.
How often does the P1S need a manual flow calibration?
After every filament-brand change or any time print quality drifts. Bambu’s flow calibration print is quick (20 minutes) and the results load straight into your slicer profile. For owners running a stable set of three or four filaments, a flow re-baseline twice a year is enough.
P1P versus P1S — does it matter for repair?
Mechanically identical except for the enclosure. Same hotend, same AMS interface, same heatbreak fan. The P1P is more vulnerable to drafts during ABS prints but easier to access during repair. Diagnosis and parts are essentially the same for both.
My P1S keeps showing AMS errors — is the AMS faulty or my filament?
Roughly 60% of AMS errors we see are filament path issues (tangle, broken filament, dust) rather than AMS hardware faults. The HMS code tells you which stage failed — that’s the first thing to check. We diagnose by stage and only quote parts when the hardware is genuinely worn rather than dirty.
