Pointing a domain’s MX record at a new email platform changes where incoming mail is delivered. If a required destination mailbox does not exist yet, messages for that address can fail after the cutover. Record the domain and current mail route

We identify the domain registrar, DNS host, current email provider and authorised administrators. Every address, alias, group and shared destination that must continue receiving is listed. Website records and other services using the same DNS zone are recorded so an email change does not become an accidental website or application change.

Verify the domain without moving the website

Microsoft 365 can verify domain ownership through a supported DNS record before mail routing moves. That verification does not require transferring the domain registration or website. We add only the required record through the authorised DNS host, confirm verification and preserve unrelated website records.

Create users and mailboxes before MX

Each required user and destination mailbox is created and licensed where applicable before the MX record points to Microsoft 365. Sign-ins, aliases and administrator ownership are checked first. Existing mail history is a separate migration scope; a new-domain setup must not be described as proof that old provider data has transferred.

Change DNS and test mail flow

The agreed Microsoft records are entered at the DNS host and checked against the current admin-centre instructions. After the controlled MX change, we test incoming and outgoing mail with representative internal and external addresses, then configure approved Outlook or mobile clients. DNS timing, third-party filtering and provider policies mean continuity must be managed and tested rather than assumed.
