90-day warranty

The work we carry out is covered by a 90-day warranty. If the same fault comes back inside that window, we put it right.

We collect and return across South West London at no charge, so you do not have to make the trip to get your machine looked at.

Common parts held in stock

Screens, batteries, keyboards, RAM and SSDs for the models we see most are on the shelf at our Putney workshop, so the usual jobs are not waiting on a supplier.

Same-day turnaround is available on many jobs — ask when you book and we will confirm availability and any additional cost before we start.

Laptop Repair Explained

How we diagnose laptop problems

When you bring in a laptop, we start with a structured check so you get a clear picture of what's wrong and what your options are.

  • Power checks (charger, battery, DC jack and power button)
  • Screen and graphics checks (panel, cable, GPU output)
  • Storage health (hard drive or SSD condition, SMART status)
  • Performance and cooling (fan, vents, dust build-up)
  • Keyboard, trackpad, ports and Wi-Fi checks
  • Software and OS checks (updates, drivers, malware)

You'll get a plain-English summary of what we've found before any work starts.

Common fixes and what causes them

Some laptop problems come up again and again. Here's what we typically see:

Cracked or flickering screens

Usually caused by drops, pressure in a bag, or a damaged cable. We replace the panel and test for hinge damage.

Battery not holding charge

Often normal wear after a few years, sometimes a charging circuit fault. We'll confirm which before recommending a new battery.

Overheating and loud fans

Dust build-up, dried thermal paste, or a failing fan. We strip and clean the cooling system properly.

Slow or freezing laptops

Ageing hard drives, too little RAM, or background software. We often recommend an SSD upgrade.

Liquid damage

We strip and clean affected parts, deal with corrosion, and advise honestly if board-level repair is worthwhile.

Repair vs replace: honest advice

Sometimes a repair isn't the best use of your money. We'll tell you when that's the case.

  • The age of the laptop and original specification
  • The cost of repair vs the value of the machine
  • How you use it (email and browsing vs design or gaming)
  • Whether an SSD or RAM upgrade would make enough difference

If we think you'd be better off replacing, we'll say so and can help with safe data backup.

Laptop Revival: SSD, RAM, battery and internal clean — from £249

Most laptops we're told are 'dying' aren't. They're running a mechanical hard drive, short on memory, sitting on a battery past its useful life, with years of dust packed into the cooling system. Fix one and the machine is still slow; fix all four and it behaves like a different laptop. The Laptop Revival bundle does exactly that in one visit — for less than booking the jobs separately, and far less than replacing the machine.

  • SSD fitted, with your Windows or macOS installation moved across so you keep your files and programs
  • RAM increased to what the board will actually take, so the machine stops falling back on the disk
  • New battery, so it works away from a socket again
  • Full internal strip and clean — fans cleared, fresh thermal paste — so it stops throttling and roaring
  • Everything tested together and handed back ready to use, with a 90-day warranty on the work

From £249. The final figure depends on the parts your model takes: SSD capacity, how much memory the board accepts, and what a battery costs for that chassis — some are simply dearer than others. This suits a machine with life left in it, and it isn't right for every laptop. If yours is old enough that the money is better spent on a replacement, we'll tell you that before you commit rather than after. We check the model first and say so if the numbers don't work.

Express and while-you-wait repairs

We're a walk-in workshop with a bench and common parts on the shelf, not a booking form that posts your laptop somewhere else. That's the practical advantage: some jobs can be done while you wait, and plenty more the same day. The honest answer is that it depends on the part and how busy the bench is when you arrive.

  • Often while you wait: RAM fitted, a straightforward SSD swap, a fan clean, software fixes and clean-ups
  • Often same day: battery and keyboard swaps, and screen replacements where we hold the panel
  • Next day or longer: anything needing a part ordered in, board-level work, and liquid damage

Call before you set off with your model and the fault, and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a wait-in job, a same-day job, or one that needs to stay with us. Same-day turnaround is available where parts and workload allow; it carries a surcharge, which we confirm with your quote before any work starts. Counter hours are Monday to Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, closed Sunday.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a laptop repair cost?
Most laptop repairs start from £45. Software fixes such as virus removal or slow-performance issues are typically £45–£90, while hardware repairs like screens, keyboards or batteries usually run £60–£200 depending on the parts. We give you a fixed quote after diagnosis, so there are no surprises.
How long does a laptop repair typically take?
From our workshop records: the current median is 3 days from booked in to ready, and 45% of recently invoiced laptop repairs were back within two days. Straightforward software fixes can be same-day, while repairs needing ordered parts take longer — we give you a realistic timeframe at diagnosis.
What laptop faults do you see most often?
Across more than 12,300 laptop repairs logged since 2009, the faults we see most are laptops that won’t power on, virus and malware infections, Windows and software problems, slow performance, failing hard drives and SSDs, and charging faults. All of these are routine work for our bench.
Do you repair all laptop brands?
Yes, we repair all major laptop brands including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Samsung, and Apple MacBooks. Our technicians are experienced with Windows laptops and MacBooks alike.
Is my data safe during the repair?
Absolutely. We take data security very seriously. Your files and personal information remain untouched unless you specifically request data recovery or transfer services.
Is it worth upgrading an old laptop instead of replacing it?
Often, yes — and for less than people expect. A slow laptop is usually several small problems at once rather than one terminal fault. Our Laptop Revival bundle tackles them together in one visit: an SSD upgrade, a RAM upgrade, a new battery and a full internal clean, from £249, with parts varying by model. It isn’t right for every machine — if yours is old enough that the money is better spent on a replacement, we’ll say so before you commit, not after. See our full price list for how the individual jobs are priced.
Can you repair my laptop while I wait?
Sometimes, yes. We’re a walk-in workshop in Putney, so RAM fitting, a straightforward SSD swap, a fan clean and most software fixes can often be done while you wait. Battery, keyboard and screen jobs are frequently same day when we hold the part. Anything needing a part ordered in, board-level work or liquid damage has to stay with us. It also depends on how busy the bench is that day, so call 020 7610 0500 with your model and the fault before you travel and we’ll give you a straight answer. Same-day turnaround is available where parts and workload allow, and any surcharge is confirmed with your quote.
What if my laptop is too old or not worth repairing?
We’ll always give you an honest assessment. If repair costs exceed the laptop’s value, we’ll advise you accordingly and can help with data backup and disposal if needed.
Do you offer laptop repairs at my home or office?
Yes, we offer both on-site and drop-off services across South West London. For complex hardware repairs, we may need to take the laptop to our workshop.
Where can I find laptop repair near me in South West London?
Our workshop is at 66 Lower Richmond Road, Putney, London SW15 1LL — easy to reach from Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Clapham, Battersea, Fulham, and surrounding areas. We also offer collection and onsite visits if you can’t travel to us.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and contactless payments for your convenience.
My laptop has a motherboard fault — can you repair it?
In many cases, yes. Laptop motherboard faults — no power, no charging, liquid damage or a dead graphics chip — can often be repaired at component level rather than writing the machine off. Our motherboard and logic board repair service traces the fault to the failed component and fixes it, typically for far less than a replacement board, backed by the same 90-day warranty.
My laptop won't display after a BIOS update — can you help?
Often, yes. A failed or interrupted BIOS update can leave a laptop powered on but with no display and no POST. Our BIOS chip reprogramming and firmware recovery service diagnoses whether the firmware is recoverable, backs it up, and reprograms or replaces the SPI flash chip. BIOS corruption is only one possible cause, so we assess the board first.
