In Depth

What to Expect

Prefer the quick version? The sections above cover most needs. Expand any topic below for more detail.

Home visits vs business support

We support both home users and businesses — here's how each typically looks:

Home support

Home IT support visits: single fixes, new device setup, broadband and WiFi problems, printers, and unhurried help for family members — at your kitchen table rather than down a phone line.

Small business support

Scheduled maintenance, multi-device environments, printer and network setup, and staff machine configuration.

Emergency callouts

When something critical stops working and you need someone there quickly — we prioritise urgent requests.

One-off projects

Office moves, new server or NAS installation, CCTV or smart device setup, and infrastructure work.

Whatever the job, we'll give you a clear quote before any work begins.

What to expect from a visit

A typical onsite visit follows a straightforward pattern:

  • We confirm the appointment time and expected duration
  • Technician arrives with tools, common parts, and diagnostic equipment
  • We assess the problem and explain what we find
  • Work is carried out with your agreement on cost
  • Everything is tested before we leave
  • You get a brief summary of what was done and any follow-up recommendations

If a repair needs parts we don't have on the day, we'll return or collect the device — whichever is easier for you.

Not sure what you need? We're happy to help.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you handle a Windows 10 to Windows 11 move across several machines onsite?
Yes, and doing it onsite is usually the least disruptive way for a small office. We check each machine against the Windows 11 hardware requirements first, upgrade the ones that pass, and flag the ones that don’t so you can decide whether to replace them or run them out. Consumer Extended Security Updates now run until 12 October 2027 — Microsoft extended the programme by a year, with free enrolment via a Microsoft account — so a machine staying on Windows 10 can be kept patched until then, as long as it’s actually enrolled; we can sort that during the same visit. See Windows 11 upgrade and Windows 10 migration for what the process covers, or refurbished laptops for the machines that can’t make the jump.
How quickly can you come out?
Same-day visits are often possible, especially for emergencies. Standard bookings are usually within 1-2 days. We’ll always try to accommodate urgent requests.
What if it's an emergency and the business is down?
Ring rather than book online — a business-down fault is pushed ahead of the standard queue rather than dropped into the next free slot. Our emergency IT support page explains exactly how urgent jobs are triaged and, just as importantly, what we don’t offer: we’re open Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 5pm, and there’s no overnight desk. Inside those hours a same-day slot is often available, with the surcharge confirmed as part of your quote before anyone sets off.
Do you charge for travel time?
The hourly rate includes travel within South West London. For locations further afield, we may add a small travel supplement which we’ll confirm when booking. How quoting works is explained on our pricing page.
What does a home IT support visit cover?
Almost anything you’d struggle with at home: computers that won’t start or have slowed to a crawl, WiFi dead spots and broadband problems (see our WiFi setup service), printers, email across your devices, new computer setup and data transfer, and patient help if you just want things explained properly. One visit can cover several small jobs — plenty of customers keep a list for us.
Can you set up a new computer and move everything across during the visit?
Yes — it’s one of the most common reasons we’re asked to come out, because the printer, the broadband and the old machine are all in the same room as you. The visit covers the full changeover: documents, photos, email with its history, bookmarks, printers and Wi-Fi, plus a secure wipe of the old machine once you’ve confirmed everything arrived. Pricing and what’s included are set out on our new computer setup and data transfer page — from £120 at your home, or from £89 if you’d rather bring both machines into the shop.
Can you spend proper time explaining things rather than just fixing them?
Yes, and it’s a booking in its own right rather than something squeezed onto the end of a repair. Our patient tech help sessions are unhurried one-to-one help with the device you already own — email, video calls with family, photos, online shopping, and spotting the calls and messages that are trying it on. They’re charged at the same standard onsite rate as any other visit, and family members often arrange them on a parent’s behalf. We leave written notes in plain English so nothing depends on remembering it all afterwards.
Which areas do your home visits cover?
We cover South West London from our Putney base — the full list is in the coverage grid on this page. Home IT support in Wandsworth is one of our most requested areas, along with Putney, Wimbledon and Clapham. Further out? Call us — any travel supplement is confirmed before we book anything.
When is remote support the better and cheaper option?
When the problem is software: viruses, email trouble, slow performance, updates, or configuration. A remote support session starts from £40, usually within the hour, with no call-out fee — we’ll suggest it first where it genuinely fits. Hardware faults, cabling, WiFi coverage and anything physical needs a visit.
What if you can't fix it on the spot?
Some repairs need parts or workshop time. We’ll diagnose on site and explain your options. If the device needs to come to us, we handle collection and return.
Do you support businesses?
Yes, we provide regular IT support to many small businesses. We can arrange scheduled maintenance visits, priority response, and retainer agreements.
Do you install CCTV, video doorbells and smart home devices?
Yes — alongside general IT support we install home CCTV, smart video doorbells, and smart home devices such as lighting, heating and voice control. We can set these up during a visit for homes and small offices across South West London.
