Overview

IT support without a contract, and without a minimum team size

Not every business needs a monthly IT plan. A four-person practice might have three problems a year. A consultant working from a spare room might need someone twice. The awkward part is that most IT companies are not set up to help you at that scale — they want a signed agreement, a minimum number of users and a twelve-month term before anyone will look at your laptop. We work the other way round. Call us when something is wrong, we tell you what it needs and roughly what it costs, we fix it, and you get one invoice for that job. Nothing recurs, nothing renews, and there is nothing to cancel. We have run the same workshop in Putney for over 25 years, so we are still here the next time something goes wrong.

No minimum number of users — one person is a normal client

What you get

What every pay-as-you-go it support job includes

Established and insured

We have run our Putney workshop for over 25 years and the business is fully insured — worth knowing when someone is coming into your home or office. Security and network work is led by a CISSP-certified consultant.

Same-day turnaround is available on many jobs — ask when you book and we will confirm availability and any additional cost before we start.

Features

What Pay As You Go IT Support Gives You

No Contract, No Notice Period

Nothing to sign, no minimum term and no notice to give. You call when something is wrong and we deal with it. Nothing renews quietly in the background twelve months later.

No Minimum Number of Users

One person, three people, fifteen — it makes no difference to whether we take the work. Plenty of London IT firms will not open a file below ten users. We have no floor at all.

Rates You Can Read First

Our ranges are published on this site rather than kept behind a sales meeting. You will have a sensible idea of the cost before you call, and a firm figure before we start work.

Remote, In-Store or Onsite

Whichever is fastest and cheapest for the fault in front of you. Many things are solved over a screen share the same morning; some need the machine on a bench; some need someone at your desk.

Businesses and Home Offices

A one-person home office is treated as a real client rather than a favour. Sole traders, consultants and freelancers get the same attention as a fifteen-person practice down the road.

A Shop You Can Walk Into

Our workshop at 66 Lower Richmond Road in Putney is a real place with real people behind the counter. When it is quicker to bring the machine in than to describe the fault, bring it in.

Process

How a Pay As You Go Job Works

Simple steps to get your problem solved quickly and professionally.

1

Tell Us What's Wrong

Call 020 7610 0500, message us, or walk into the shop. Describe it in plain English — you are not expected to diagnose it for us before you ring.

2

We Agree the Route

We say honestly whether it is a remote job, a bench job or a visit, and what that is likely to cost. Short questions often get answered there and then at no charge.

3

We Fix It

Remote sessions can often start within the hour. Bench work is quoted after diagnosis. Onsite visits are booked for a slot that fits around your working day.

4

You Pay for That Job

One invoice for the work done, and that is the end of it. Nothing recurring, nothing to cancel, and no obligation to call us again — though most people do.

What pay as you go IT support actually costs

Almost no IT company in London publishes a price. We do, because the first thing anyone actually wants to know is whether this is a £50 problem or a £500 one:

Remote support — typically £40 to £90

A secure screen-share session for software faults, email, Microsoft 365, printers, slow machines and configuration. Most single issues sit at the lower end. There is no travel involved, so there is no call-out charge either.

In-store diagnostics — typically £40 to £80

Bringing the machine into the Putney workshop for proper testing on a bench. This is usually the most cost-effective route for anything that might be hardware, because we can rule things out properly rather than guessing over a screen.

Onsite visit — typically £80 to £150

Someone at your premises, priced on time and complexity. Right for network and Wi-Fi problems, printers, multi-device setups, office moves and anything that needs eyes on the physical setup rather than one screen.

Parts and specialist work — quoted separately

Drives, memory, screens, batteries and anything else are priced and confirmed before we order. Repairs carry a 90-day warranty, and free collection and return is available across South West London if you would rather not bring it in yourself.

These are honest ranges, not teaser pricing. The final figure depends on the device, the fault and how long it takes — and you get that figure before we start.

Pay as you go, or a monthly plan? A straight comparison

Both are legitimate. The wrong one costs you money, so it is worth being blunt about which fits:

Pay as you go suits you if

Your problems are occasional and unpredictable, the business does not stop when one machine misbehaves, and you would rather keep money in the account than pay for cover you might not use. Two or three incidents a year almost always favours paying per job.

A monthly plan suits you if

You are calling most months, you want a fixed, predictable number in the budget, or you want someone watching maintenance and backups between incidents rather than only turning up after the fact. Our plan is £55 per user, per month, monthly rolling.

The tipping point in practice

Somewhere around one call a month, per-job billing stops being the cheaper option — and that is before you count the hours your team loses waiting for a slot rather than having one. It is worth doing the arithmetic with last year's invoices in front of you.

You are not locked into either

Nothing stops you starting pay as you go and moving to a plan when the pattern changes, or dropping back to per-job billing after a quiet stretch. We would rather you were on the right one than the more profitable one.

If you are genuinely unsure, start pay as you go. A few months of real invoices will answer the question far better than a sales conversation.

Why most IT companies will not take a small job

If you have rung round for business IT support and been politely turned away, it was probably not you. The economics of the industry are simply built against small teams:

  • Most London providers set a seat minimum — ten users is common, twenty is normal, and some will not engage below fifty
  • Their pricing model depends on volume, so a three-person client costs them more to onboard than it earns
  • Support is sold as an annual contract, which means a small business is asked to commit for a year before it has seen any work done
  • Prices are almost never published, so you cannot compare without booking a meeting with a salesperson first
  • One-off jobs are often refused outright, because they do not fit the recurring-revenue model the business is built on

None of that is dishonest — it is just a different business. We run a workshop with a counter, so a single laptop is a normal day's work rather than an exception we have to justify.

Not sure what you need? We're happy to help.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a contract to get IT support from you?
No. Pay as you go means exactly that — you call when you need us, we quote the job, we do it, and you pay for that job. There is no agreement to sign, no minimum term, no notice period and nothing that renews. If you find yourself calling often enough that a predictable monthly cost would suit you better, our remote IT support plan is £55 per user per month on a monthly rolling basis, but there is no pressure to move to it.
Is there a minimum number of users or devices?
No, and it is worth knowing that this is unusual. Most London IT companies set a floor — ten users is a common one, twenty is not rare, and some will not look at a business below fifty. That leaves an enormous number of three- and six-person firms unable to buy support at all. We quote for whatever size you actually are, whether that is a single laptop in a spare bedroom or a fifteen-person office. If you later want ongoing cover, managed IT support is priced the same way, with no seat minimum.
What does a typical job cost?
Remote support usually falls between £40 and £90, in-store diagnostics and troubleshooting between £40 and £80, and an onsite visit between £80 and £150 depending on how long it takes and how complex it is. Parts are quoted separately and confirmed before anything is ordered. Those ranges and how quoting works are set out on our pricing page. We would rather publish honest ranges than make you sit through a meeting to find out.
When is pay as you go cheaper than a monthly plan?
Pay as you go wins when your needs are genuinely occasional — a handful of incidents a year, no one depending on you to keep systems patched, and no particular urgency when something does go wrong. A monthly plan wins when the calls become regular, when you want a predictable line in the budget, or when you want somebody actively looking after maintenance and backups rather than only reacting. As a rough rule, once you are calling most months, the £55 per user plan on our remote IT support page usually works out better value than paying per job.
Can you help today if something is down?
Often, yes. Remote sessions can frequently start within the hour, and if the machine needs to come in you can walk it into the Putney shop the same day. Same-day turnaround on workshop repairs is available and carries a surcharge, which we confirm when we quote. If a whole office is stopped rather than one person, our emergency IT support page covers how we handle urgent jobs.
Do you support home offices and sole traders as well as businesses?
Yes, and a good share of our business work is exactly that. Consultants, therapists, designers, bookkeepers and one-person limited companies all run on a laptop, a printer, an email account and some cloud storage — and when one of those stops, the work stops. We treat that as seriously as an office of twenty, because it is just as expensive to the person it happens to.
Can I switch to a monthly plan later if I start calling more often?
Yes, and plenty of clients do. People typically start pay as you go, see how much actually gets resolved without anyone leaving the building, and move onto a plan once the calls become routine. It works in the other direction too — if a quiet year makes the plan poor value, you can drop back to paying per job, because the plan is monthly rolling rather than an annual tie.
Where are you based, and when are you open?
Our workshop is at 66 Lower Richmond Road, Putney, SW15 1LL. We are open Monday to Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, and closed on Sundays. We cover South West London for onsite visits, offer free collection and return across South West London for workshop jobs, and remote support reaches anywhere with an internet connection.
