Overview

The bench behind other people's benches

Not every repair shop wants a microscope, a hot-air station and a flash programmer on the bench — and not every IT company wants to tell a client the machine is a write-off. We take that work on as a subcontractor. Send us the board-level jobs, the failed BIOS updates and the diagnoses that have run out of road, and we assess them, quote you a trade price, and hand the machine back ready for you to return to your customer. Your name stays on the job.

What you get

What every trade repair service job includes

Established and insured

We have run our Putney workshop for over 25 years and the business is fully insured — worth knowing when someone is coming into your home or office. Security and network work is led by a CISSP-certified consultant.

Same-day turnaround is available on many jobs — ask when you book and we will confirm availability and any additional cost before we start.

Features

What We Take On for the Trade

Micro-Soldering Subcontract Work

Component-level rework under a microscope: power circuits, charging faults, dead ports, liquid-damage corrosion and surface-mount replacements on laptop, MacBook and desktop boards.

BIOS and Firmware Recovery

SPI flash reading and verification, official firmware preparation, in-circuit and off-board programming, and blank chip programming and fitting for machines that won't POST after a failed update.

Specialist Diagnosis

Second-line fault finding on machines that have already been looked at. We work from symptoms and schematics rather than parts-swapping, and we tell you what we find — including when the answer is that it isn't worth repairing.

White-Label Handling

Nothing we send back carries our branding and we don't contact your customer. You keep the relationship, the invoice and the credit for the fix.

Realistic Turnaround

We give you a timescale with the quote and tell you early if a chip or part has to be ordered in, so you can manage your customer's expectations instead of chasing us.

One Technician, One Thread

You deal with the person doing the work. Findings come back in plain language you can pass straight on to your customer, with photos where they help.

Process

How Trade Jobs Run

Simple steps to get your problem solved quickly and professionally.

1

Brief Us

Send the model, the fault, what's already been tried and what the customer reported. The more history we get, the less time we spend rediscovering it.

2

Assess and Quote

We assess the board or machine, tell you what we've found, and give you a trade price and a timescale. You decide whether the job goes ahead.

3

Repair

Component-level repair, firmware work or further diagnosis, depending on what the assessment turned up. We come back to you if the picture changes.

4

Return with Notes

The machine comes back tested, unbranded, with a plain-English summary of what failed and what was done, so you can hand it straight to your customer.

In Depth

What to Expect

What we do — and what we don't

It saves everyone time if the scope is clear before you send anything over. We take on:

  • Laptop and MacBook logic boards, and desktop PC motherboards
  • Component-level fault finding and micro-soldering rework
  • BIOS and UEFI firmware recovery, SPI flash programming and chip replacement
  • Second-opinion diagnosis on machines that have already been assessed
  • Overflow bench work when your own workshop is at capacity

What we don't take on: mobile phone, tablet and games console work. That isn't our bench and we'd rather say so than take your money learning on your customer's device. We also won't claim a job is recoverable before we've looked at it — some boards aren't, and you need to hear that early enough to give your customer a straight answer.

Turnaround: what to expect and what to promise your customer

Trade work lives or dies on whether you can give your customer a date and keep it. How we handle that:

  • Assessment first, with findings and a timescale before the repair is agreed
  • Straightforward firmware and component jobs are usually the quickest to turn round
  • Anything needing a specific chip or part ordered in takes longer, and we tell you at quote stage rather than on the day it's due
  • If the board turns out to hide a second fault, you hear from us before we carry on, not afterwards
  • Same-day handling is available on some jobs where workload and parts allow; it carries a surcharge, confirmed with the quote

We would rather quote you a realistic date and hit it than quote an optimistic one and have you explain the delay to your customer. Counter hours at the Putney workshop are Monday to Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00, closed Sunday.

White-label: your customer stays your customer

Subcontracting only works if it's invisible from the outside. How we keep it that way:

  • No stickers, no branding and no paperwork of ours inside the machine or the packaging
  • We don't contact your customer, and we don't need their details to do the work
  • Findings are written so you can pass them on as your own assessment
  • We don't market to the end user off the back of a trade job

You're a trade partner, not a lead. If you'd rather we didn't know whose machine it is at all, send it in with a reference and a fault description and we'll work from that.

Not sure what you need? We're happy to help.

Pricing

Trade Pricing

Trade pricing is on application. We don't publish trade rates, because board-level work is priced by the job — the fault, the board, the chip package and how much of it has already been taken apart all move the number. Tell us what you're dealing with and we'll quote it. Regular trade partners are set up on account terms rather than job-by-job. Price, turnaround and the terms of the work are all confirmed with the quote, before anything starts.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take on repair work subcontracted from other repair shops?
Yes. Board-level and specialist work for other repair shops, resellers and IT companies is a deliberate part of what we do. Most trade work comes to us because it needs a microscope, a hot-air station or a flash programmer that isn’t worth putting on every bench in London. You keep the customer relationship; we do the part of the job you’d otherwise have to turn away.
What does trade repair cost?
Trade pricing is on application, and we don’t publish trade rates. Board-level work is priced per job — the fault, the board, the chip package and how far the machine has already been stripped all change the figure, so a published rate card would be guesswork. Send us the model and the fault and we’ll quote it, with the timescale, before anything starts. Regular partners work on account terms rather than job-by-job.
What kind of board-level work do you handle?
Power and charging circuit faults, dead shorts, no-POST boards, liquid-damage corrosion, failed surface-mount components, dead ports and display circuit faults, on laptop, MacBook and desktop boards. It’s the same component-level discipline we describe on our logic board and motherboard repair page — traced to the failed component and repaired, rather than the whole board replaced.
Can you recover a BIOS on a machine we can't get to POST?
Often, yes. Our BIOS chip reprogramming and firmware recovery service reads and verifies the existing SPI flash, prepares the correct official firmware image, and programs it in-circuit or off-board — or programs and fits a blank replacement chip where the original has failed. We’ll tell you honestly when a no-POST fault points somewhere other than the firmware, because a successful chip write never guarantees the board has no further fault.
Will my customer know the work was subcontracted?
Not from us. Nothing goes back with our branding on it, we don’t contact your customer, and we don’t market to end users off the back of trade jobs. Findings come back written so you can pass them straight on. If you’d prefer we never knew whose machine it was, send it with a reference and a fault description instead.
How quickly can you turn trade work around?
We give you a timescale with the quote, once the board has been assessed, rather than a blanket promise up front. Straightforward firmware and component jobs move fastest; anything needing a specific chip or part ordered in takes longer, and you’ll know that at quote stage. Same-day handling is available on some jobs where workload and parts allow, and it carries a surcharge that we confirm with the quote.
What happens if the board turns out not to be worth repairing?
We tell you, with what we found and why, so you can give your customer a straight answer instead of a long silence. Some boards are genuinely beyond economic repair — severe corrosion, multiple failed chips, physical damage across the board. Where the customer’s real problem is the data rather than the machine, our data recovery service can often get files off the drive, and that can be handled on the same trade basis.
Do you repair phones, tablets or games consoles for the trade?
No. We work on laptops, MacBooks and desktop computers, including their boards and firmware. Phone, tablet and console work isn’t our bench, and we’d rather turn it down than take it on and learn at your customer’s expense.
Where do we send the work?
Our workshop is at 66 Lower Richmond Road, Putney, London SW15 1LL. Call 020 7610 0500 to talk a job through before you send it, or get in touch with the model, the fault and what’s already been tried, and we’ll tell you whether it’s one for us.
