Wimbledon is around 3 miles from our Putney workshop — close enough for a drop-in but far enough that most customers prefer we collect. We cover Wimbledon Town Centre, South Wimbledon, Wimbledon Village, and Raynes Park. Whatever the fault — cracked screen, dead battery, liquid damage, or a machine that simply won’t turn on — we diagnose free and quote before touching anything.

Laptop Repair Serving Wimbledon

Wimbledon has two distinct halves: the busy town centre around the station, and Wimbledon Village up on the hill — quieter, more residential, and further from most repair options. Both areas are well within our collection service, and both are a reasonable drive to our Putney workshop if you’d rather bring the machine in yourself.

We’ve been serving South West London since 2014. Wimbledon customers come to us for repairs ranging from simple battery swaps to complex logic board work — and increasingly for data recovery from machines that have stopped working unexpectedly.

What We Repair for Wimbledon Customers

Laptop and MacBook Screen Replacement

Screen damage is one of the most common reasons people search for a repair shop rather than attempting a fix at home. A cracked panel needs replacing — there’s no repairing a physical crack. Display faults without visible damage (backlight flickering, dead zones, lines down the screen, suddenly dim display) usually also indicate a panel fault, though occasionally it’s a cable or GPU issue that we can identify during diagnosis.

For Windows laptops: most common screen sizes and panel types cost £80–£140 all in for parts and labour. We carry stock of widely used panels.

For MacBooks: the repair is more involved, particularly on Retina and Liquid Retina models where the panel is bonded to the glass. MacBook screen replacement typically runs £180–£350 depending on the specific model and year. We’ll confirm the exact cost once we’ve checked the model — there’s enough variation between generations that quoting blind isn’t fair to you.

Battery Replacement

Wimbledon customers tend to ask about battery replacement when one of two things happens: the machine starts shutting down unexpectedly (usually at 20–40% charge) or the runtime drops to the point where the laptop is effectively tethered to the charger. Both are signs of a battery that’s lost meaningful capacity.

On MacBooks, you can check your battery health directly: Apple menu → System Information → Power → Cycle Count and Full Charge Capacity. A cycle count above 800–1000 alongside noticeably reduced runtime is a reliable indicator the battery needs replacing.

We replace batteries on all MacBook models and most Windows laptops. Costs: Windows £65–£120, MacBook £95–£150. The repair itself is usually same-day.

Water and Liquid Damage

Liquid damage repairs from Wimbledon customers tend to come in two categories: the ones where the laptop was powered off immediately and brought to us within a day or two, and the ones where the machine was left plugged in to see if it would dry out.

The second category has significantly worse outcomes. Corrosion accelerates on a wet board when voltage is present. If liquid has entered your laptop, power it off at the mains immediately, remove the battery if accessible, and don’t attempt to charge or restart it.

We disassemble the machine, ultrasonically clean the board, assess what’s corroded and what’s recoverable, and give you a clear picture before any repair work begins. Water damage assessment is free — repair is quoted separately once we know what we’re dealing with.

Data Recovery from Wimbledon

“I can’t turn it on and all my files are on it” is one of the most common calls we get. In most cases, the data is recoverable — the failure that stops the machine booting is rarely the drive itself failing, but rather a software or hardware fault that leaves the drive intact.

Logical recovery (corrupted file system, accidentally deleted files, failed operating system) has high success rates and is typically the least expensive recovery type. Physical drive failure is more involved and outcomes depend on the extent of the damage — we assess honestly and won’t charge you if recovery isn’t viable.

MacBook Repair in Wimbledon

Wimbledon Village in particular has a high concentration of MacBook users — the freelance, creative, and professional community in the area tends to use Apple hardware almost exclusively. Common faults we see:

MacBook won’t turn on. This has a long list of possible causes: failed battery, charging circuit fault, logic board component failure, or — more commonly than people expect — a software or firmware issue that prevents startup. We work through a structured diagnosis rather than assuming the worst. Many machines that appear completely dead are recoverable.

Slow MacBook. If your MacBook has gradually got slower over the past year, it’s worth investigating before assuming you need a new machine. Intel MacBooks in particular slow down when thermal paste dries out and the machine starts throttling its CPU to manage heat — a thermal paste replacement can make a surprising difference. macOS updates on older hardware can also degrade performance in ways that are partially addressable.

Keyboard problems. Sticky keys, keys that won’t register, or keys that double-type are common on the butterfly keyboard generation (2016–2019 MacBook Pro). Post-2019 models are more robust but still get issues after liquid contact. We replace keys, keyboards, and top cases as needed.

Logic board repair. We repair at the component level where the fault allows it — replacing a failed charging IC, a GPU capacitor, or a power management component is often a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire board. Not every fault is component-repairable, but we’ll tell you which it is rather than defaulting to the expensive option.
